NATA 2021 – Results, Colleges, Admission Process

Council of Architecture has announced the NATA second test exam result on 12th September 2020. Candidates can check their results on http://www.nata.in/

The next step is for students to prepare for the B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture) program based on their NATA or JEE Paper 2 marks and XII Std aggregate percentage. Here are some frequently asked questions about the B.Arch Admission in Architecture colleges:

Q.1. How to download the NATA 2020 Result? 

Step 1: Visit the official website of NATA http://www.nata.in/ 

Step 2: Select the tab designated for NATA second test results

Step 3: Insert required credentials

Step 4: Download and access the NATA 2020 results

Q.2. How to calculate the Merit Combo Score for B.Arch admission in Architecture colleges?

The admission to B.Arch program in Architecture colleges is on the basis of NATA score + XII Std aggregate percentage. The admission is offered on the basis of merit list. The formula for calculation of combo score for merit rank based on NATA marks and XII Std aggregate percentage is as below:

(12th std percentage / 2) + (NATA score / 4) = Combo Score

For example: 

If a candidate has- 12th std percentage = 80% and NATA score = 144

The calculation would be = (80/2) + (144/4) = 76/100

Q.3. What is a good Merit Combo score for B.Arch admission in an Architecture college?

Based on the formula given above, candidates can calculate their own merit score. Here is predicted calculator for which Architecture college you can expect to get admission based on your merit scores:

Q.4. Who conducts the admission process for the B.Arch program in Architecture college?

There are 4 types of Architecture colleges in India. The admission process is conducted by different authorities based on the type of Architecture college. Here is the list:

About 90% of the Architecture colleges across India are State Level Colleges, either Government Aided or Unaided (i.e. Private). For each state there is a different CET cell appointed by the Government which conducts admission to B.Arch programs. Here is the list of admission authorities for few states:

Note: The State CET cells consider either NATA or JEE or higher of the 2 scores for admission. The State CET cell online system will ask candidates to input NATA and JEE Paper 2 scores. The Council of Architecture provides all Admission Authorities with the formula for equivalence between JEE Paper 2 and NATA score. The system calculates and uses higher of the 2 scores.

Note: The admission to NITs, SPAs, IITs, etc are conducted by CBSE appointed JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). We will publish a separate blog to explain the admission process through JoSAA.

Q.5. What is the admission process for the B.Arch program in Architecture colleges?  

Every student seeking admission to B.Arch program in Architecture colleges, keep checking the respective state’s CET cell websites. For example, students applying for Maharashtra State colleges, must register online through the http://cetcell.mahacet.org/ portal (the link for B.Arch 2020 admission will be active soon). The registration process is fairly simple:

  1. Sign up http://cetcell.mahacet.org/ portal
  2. Enter Entrance exam details
  3. Enter Personal details.
  4. Select nearest FRC center for document verification.
  5. Make payment & further updation.
  6. Wait for notification on CAP rounds

Q.6. What documents are required for B.Arch 2020 Admission through common admission process?

The admission process for B.Arch 2020 has not been announced in most states. But the general documents required every year are:

  • 10th class marksheet
  • 12th class/ Diploma marksheet
  • NATA or JEE Main Score Card
  • School Leaving Certificate (if required)
  • Certificate of Indian Nationality
  • Caste Certificate & Caste Validity Certificate (if caste category)
  • Along with the above documents, additional documents may also be required as per the category of the applicant.

Q.7. Which are the top Architecture colleges? What was 2019 admission cut off for these Architecture colleges?

The State CET cells may not publish the cut off lists for admission to the B.Arch program at Architecture colleges. Q.8. What are the types of seats available for admission in State Level Colleges?

There are generally 4 types of seats available for admission in State Level colleges. We will take the example of Maharashtra to understand these types in the table below:

Type of Seat / Candidate Explanation
1. Maharashtra State Candidature Seats 65% seats are reserved for this quota. The Candidates having Maharashtra State candidature, can apply for these seats.
2. All India Candidature Seats 15% seats are reserved for this quota. The Candidates having Indian Nationality are eligible under this Category.
3. Minority Quota Seats The Maharashtra domiciled Candidate belonging to a particular Linguistic or Religious Minority Community from within the State and as notified by the Government are eligible under this Category.
4. Institutional Quota Seats 20% of total seats are reserved for this quota. These seats are filled by the institute. These are management quota seats and generally candidates are asked to pay a capitation fee.
