There will be 3 rounds of allotment. To participate in each round the candidate has to complete choice filling for each round.

4. What should be the order of choices I fill for admission to B.Arch and B.Plan programs.

There is no scientific ranking available for choice filling. However, SILICA has created a suggested priority list for choice filling for both B.Arch and B.Plan programs. See the table in Annexure 1 below. This is only an indicative list and students should choose based on their preferences.

For students who have qualified for JEE (Mains-Paper 1) + AAT, they should first choose IIT-Rourkee and IIT-Kharagpur. After that, they can choose institutes from Annexure 1, based on their preferences.

5. What are the different types of seat categories (program sections) available under JoSAA?

The total intake (i.e., number of seats) for an academic program is divided into different Program-Sections. These are OPEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, OPEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, ST-PwD. Candidates will be allotted seats based on the category (program section) they belong to. See rule no. 10 of Business Rule on page 17.

6. How will the seats be allotted under JoSAA-2020 admission rounds?

The seats are allotted under JoSAA on the basis of 3 things:

  1. Candidates category merit rank based on JEE exam score
  2. Candidates choices filled for institutes / programs

The merit rank list will be prepared for each category (program section) and seats will be allotted based on choices filled by the candidates.

There will be 6 rounds of seat allotment. After every round, the list of vacant / available seats will be displayed. Based on the vacant seats, the candidates have to complete choice filling for the next round, if they want to participate in future rounds.

7. What will happen if there is only one seat and two candidates have the same rank?

As per rule 22 of the Business Rules, “Suppose there is less number of seats available under a particular category in an academic program than the number of candidates with the same category-wise rank seeking admission to the program, then all those candidates will be offered seats by creating requisite number of supernumerary seats.

8. What is the process once a seat is allocated in the allotment rounds?

  1. Check: The candidate must check if a seat is allotted to them or not in a given round of allotment.
  2. Download Letter:If a seat is allocated, the candidate has to download the “Provisional Seat Allotment Letter”.
  3. Choose: They have to accept the seat and choose one of the 3 options- “freeze”, “slide” and “float”.
  4. Upload Documents:The candidate must upload the documents (as per Annexure 3 of the Business Rules) on the JoSAA portal.
  5. Acceptance Fee: The candidate must pay the acceptance fee (Rs 15,000 / Rs 35,000) based on the category they belong to using online banking or SBI e-challan.
  6. Failure: If the candidate fails to do the above steps for seat acceptance, it will be considered that the candidate has rejected the offer. Candidates who reject the seat cannot participate any further in any rounds of the JoSAA admission process.
  7. Queries: In case the document verification team have any queries about the documents uploaded, they will notify the candidate through the portal. The candidate has to reply to the query to secure their seat in allotted time.

9. What are the 3 options- “freeze”, “slide” and “float”?

At the time of accepting the seat online, a candidate has to opt for any one of the options ‘freeze’, ‘slide’ or ‘float’ for the choice of academic program for subsequent rounds.

(A) Freeze: Candidates accept the offered seat and indicate that they do not want to participate in further rounds of seat allocation and finalize the allocated program. Such candidates will NOT be considered in subsequent rounds of admission.

(B) Float: Candidates accept the offered seat and indicate that, if admission to an academic program of better/higher preference in any Institute is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently accepted academic program. Such candidates will be considered in subsequent rounds of admission.

(C) Slide: Candidates accept the offered seat and indicate that, if admission to an academic program of better / higher preference is offered within the same Institute, they will accept it. Such candidates will be considered in subsequent rounds of admission.

Note:

  1. For candidates who choose the float or slide option, allocation of a seat in an academic program of his/her higher preference would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by the candidate in the earlier round.
  2. Slide and float options will be available to only those candidates who are NOT offered admission to their first choice.
  3. Slide and float options are NOT available in the last round of seat acceptance.
  4. If a candidate opts freeze against a seat, the option cannot be changed.

10. What if I don’t get a seat allocated in the given rounds?

If you do not get a seat in the JoSAA admission process, do not get disheartened. You can apply for seats in your state level or private architecture colleges based on your JEE (Paper 2) scores.

11. What are the rank cut offs for admission to different institutes / programs from 2019?

The Opening Rank (OR) & the Closing Rank (CR) of different institutes / programs for the year 2019 is available at the link – https://josaa.nic.in/webinfo/Page/Page?PageId=6&LangId=P
